Legendary YouTuber Spratt has retired from creating Call of Duty content. In a shocking twist, the prolific marksman has decided to call it quits on his time as a content creator.
Season 2 of Black Ops 7 may have many invigorated to continue playing the Call of Duty franchise, but others are not as keen on where the franchise is going.
While snipers haven’t normally been top of the weapon meta in recent years, this year they’ve been insanely impactful – so much so they’ve even received nerfs.
So why would James Spratt choose to retire now?
Why Has Call of Duty YouTube Legend Spratt Retired?
On the 19th of February 2026, James posted an 11 minute video reminiscing about the years that proceeded and his phenomenal rise to the top as one of the community’s most recognisable snipers.
Reaching over 1.18 million subscribers since beginning in 2008, the UK based content creator has made some of the most memorable montages to date. In between these, he posted live gameplay commentaries showing off his skills in action and uncut.
Spratt acknowledges that while his ability to snipe is not quite what it once was, he’s still got the skills necessary to put out great content (and you can’t argue with that if you’ve seen his recent content). So what’s the real reason? It’s as simple as he felt it was the right time to step back from it.
Other than the fact he has done this for almost 20 years, he notes that the Call of Duty games don’t quite give him the same buzz as they used to (particularly in terms of longevity).
He also mentioned that he wanted to go out on top and hang up the sticks on his own terms, rather than doing it because he couldn’t anymore.
Spratt double down on this, posting an emotional fair well on X. There is no mention of what he will be doing next or if he may return to do some cameos in the future. It’s expected his channel will stay live.
It’s a sad day to see such a legend go, but we wish him the very best.
