Black Ops Royale is introducing a new weapon system to Call of Duty Warzone, so you no longer get to use your loadouts that feature the most current weapon meta build. So, how do archetypes work in Black Ops Royale?
Season 2 Reloaded of Black Ops 7 brings a change of pace to the typical Warzone formula, with a respectful nod to the mode that started it all – Blackout.
So let’s dive into how the weapon system will work.
Black Ops Royale Weapon Archetypes Explained
Archetypes are one of two core mechanics behind the weapon-building system in this mode, the other being weapon rarity.
Unlike the Gunsmith, there is no way to handcraft and build the weapon you ideally want in this mode. It’s more of a linear upgrade process.
Where you could previously build the most versatile and balanced weapon for all playstyles, you’re now going to find that you’re sent down a specific path for the weapon you’ve looted.
Of the 5 attachments you can add to your weapon, these are predetermined and match the style of play the weapon is typically associated with.
It can seem overwhelming when there are tons of attachments, many of which you’ve probably never heard of and have no idea what they do. Still, the build-arch comes with a theme and a narrative-inspired name such as “CQB”, “Raider”, “Covert”, “Viper”, “Heavy Metal”, or “Stalker” to help you understand in tense situations.
Your HUD will display all of the possible attachments you can unlock for each weapon as you upgrade it, so you know what’s to come, and crucially, gives you an opportunity to ditch it for something else if you don’t like the path it’s creating.

Weapons will have more than one Archetype theme. At launch, it appears there is a maximum of just two options for each weapon. Check out the full list of Archetypes here.
Of the themes available for a weapon, they will both be present in-game for you to find, so make sure you check the weapon so you’re satisfied with the results.
It could be that thereare more archetype themes added as the game mode evolves.
Global Class Benefits
Every weapon will behave differently, as is the nature of the game, they are not all clones of each other.
All weapons will experience similar benefits as they are upgraded, which are unique to the weapon category they belong to and stack as they are upgraded.
These bonuses are as follows:
- “+” = Very Minor benefit (around 5%)
- “++” = Minor benefit (around 10%)
- “+++” = Moderate benefit (around 15%)
Below is a breakdown of what they’ll look like per weapon category:
- Assault Rifles: Global Benefits (at Uncommon Rarity)
